Onyx Koan is an idea; a band: a lifestyle.
What do you get when you blend folk songs and indie rock with the eternal journey of enlightenment?...you get Onyx Koan.
Singer/songwriter Mark Hubing started recording a 10-song full-band studio album in January 2020 without a band and chose to start the recording project with Jason Otto and Beyond Audio Recording in West Bend, WI.
He contracted players who he felt brought the best vibe to the songs. These ten songs represent the versatility of Mark's songwriting reaching back over the last decade or so.
Mark then found mixing engineer Chris Short and Alpaca Ranch Recording (Chicago/Milwaukee) to mix the songs.
The songs were then ready for mastering and have been mastered by Garrett Haines and Treelady Studios (Pittsburgh, PA).
Through ups and downs alike, nearly three years later, the album is finished.
Mark now builds a band to perform the music of their album "Still in the Earthquake" with drummer Alex Jordan, bassist Gar Longworth, and keyboardist Sam Sarmento.
